Field Note — Mexico

Coatepec, Veracruz. The story starts in 1920, when Antonio Pérez-Redondo Galvan — APG — joined Arbuckle Coffee as an exporting agent, stamping his initials on the finest lots heading to New Orleans and Hamburg. A century later, the operation is run by Ernesto Perez and his sister Givette, who have pushed lot separation and full traceability by farm, variety, and process. APG runs the first ecological mill in Coatepec, and their dry mill prepared the winning lots of the 2022 Cup of Excellence Mexico.

This lot is grown between 900 and 1,200 masl on clay mineral soils in the Veracruz coffee belt, by partner farms that receive direct technical support from APG. The varieties are a classic regional blend — Bourbon, Catimor, Caturra, and Typica — harvested October through March. Cherries are floated and sorted on arrival, then dried on raised beds for 15 to 20 days, rested in GrainPro cocoons, and milled at the same APG dry mill. The coffee never leaves the family’s hands from farm to port.

Fresh new crop. A natural processed lot that bridges the fruity and the chocolaty — and does both well.

Tasting Notes by Roast

  • Light: Cherry, strawberry, tropical fruit and a soft floral lift — with chocolate already starting to round things out. Gentle, low acidity. The fruity side of the natural at its brightest.
  • Medium: Cacao nibs, pistachio, semisweet chocolate, round body and sweet finish. The tropical fruit plays a supporting role. The sweet spot.
  • Medium-Dark: Deeper chocolate, toasted nuts, the fruit pulls back and cocoa leads — holding the sweet edge of the natural without falling into smoky territory. Low acidity, medium-full body.

Small batch. Roasted to order.

Freshness Policy

Every bag is roasted within the last 14 days in small batches. Orders ship within 3 days of your purchase.

We will never ship out stale coffee. The Frontier demanded only the best, and so do we.

Ground Coffee Disclaimer

In order to give the best coffee drinking experience, each bag is batch roasted, bagged as whole beans (this allows the coffee flavors and notes to really bloom), and then carefully sealed.

If ground coffee is ordered, we will open the bag(s) no older than two weeks old and grind per order. This is done to prevent back stock of ground coffee from sitting on the shelf and going stale.

Ground coffee stays fresh for about a week or two after grinding, where as whole bean can last for up to 2-3 months. This is why whole bean coffee is always recommended for the best and longest lasting experience.

*All sanitary precautions are taken while grinding orders*
