Field Note — Haiti Blue Mountain Caribbean Strain

Dondon. Mountains south of Cap-Haïtien. Volcanic soil and a river that does double duty — irrigation, power, and processing, then filtered clean before it ever returns to the water.

Francis Dubois left a physics classroom in Port-au-Prince for these mountains in 1980. What he built became COOPACVOD — now the oldest running cooperative in Haiti, with over 850 members and the country’s only certified organic Blue Mountain arabica. Haitian Blue once stood shoulder to shoulder with Jamaican Blue Mountain, until earthquakes and a collapsed economy left the farms abandoned and the coffee trees cut for firewood. What’s left is a working comeback — sourced direct through Cafe Kreyol, a co-op partner that pays well above market and puts people to work rebuilding it, harvest by harvest.

Tasting Notes

Medium-Dark: Dark chocolate, smoky, malty overtones, low acidity, full body. Robust tones reminiscent of a fine Haitian cigar — rich and grounded.

Batch roasted. Always fresh.

Freshness Policy

Every bag is roasted within the last 14 days in small batches. Orders ship within 3 days of your purchase.

We will never ship out stale coffee. The Frontier demanded only the best, and so do we.

Ground Coffee Disclaimer

In order to give the best coffee drinking experience, each bag is batch roasted, bagged as whole beans (this allows the coffee flavors and notes to really bloom), and then carefully sealed.

If ground coffee is ordered, we will open the bag(s) no older than two weeks old and grind per order. This is done to prevent back stock of ground coffee from sitting on the shelf and going stale.

Ground coffee stays fresh for about a week or two after grinding, where as whole bean can last for up to 2-3 months. This is why whole bean coffee is always recommended for the best and longest lasting experience.

*All sanitary precautions are taken while grinding orders*
